Avalon will purchase a floor scrubber for the fire hall, as promised, despite some officials' pleas to wait until the borough's revenue picks up.

Fire company members said the old scrubber is shot, and their inability to clean the oil and other materials from the garage floors is creating a safety hazard for firefighters.

The Quaker Valley Council of Governments and its member municipalities of Aleppo, Avalon, Bell Acres, Bellevue, Ben Avon, Edgeworth, Emsworth, Glenfield, Haysville, Kilbuck, Leet, Leetsdale, Glen Osborne and Sewickley will sponsor a Recycling Day on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sewickley Borough will host the event behind the Sewickley municipal building on Washington Street. Only residents from the above mentioned municipalities will be able to participate, and ID (driver’s license or voter registration) will be required. No commercial establishments may participate.

Police responded to two accidents on Union Avenue attributed to manholes exposed during road construction. Both occurred on June 20. In the first, the vehicle was towed after the car’s oil pan was damaged. In the second, the driver told police that hitting the manhole caused the vehicle to come to a stop and the air bags deployed.
