Paul Shabla Paul Shabla of New Galilee, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Leo Shabla; and two nieces, Sandy Zilles and her husband Jack and Kathy Chmura and her husband Tim. He was preceded in death by three siblings, Andy, John and Ann. Friends were received at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral service was held in St. George Ukrainian Church on Monday.

Elizabeth McFarlane Elizabeth A. "Betty" McFarlane, 84, of Bellevue, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011. Mrs. McFarlane was a school crossing guard in Bellevue for many years. She is survived by her husband, Richard J. McFarlane; three children, Richard J. McFarlane Jr. and his wife Chris, Patricia Brelloch and her husband Rick and Kathy Weifenbach and her husband Lee; three granddaughters, Kelly Harshman and her husband James, Colleen McFarlane and Megan Brelloch; and two great-grandsons, Elija and Isaiah Harshman.

Eleanor Dvorsky Eleanor H. Herstich Dvorsky, 82, of Ross Township, wife of the late Joseph A. Dvorsky, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Mrs. Dvorsky retired as a nurse from Suburban General Hospital where she worked for 20 years. She was a member of St. Gabriel Parish and Risen Lord Church.

Rosemarie Schuchman Rosemarie Rebel Schuchman, 85, of Avalon, formerly of Ohio Township, died Friday, May 27, 2011. She is survived by two sons, Paul Schuchman and his wife Arlene and John Schuchman and his wife Barbara; two siblings, Sr. Myron and Carol Beck; two grandchildren, Paul Ross and Sarah Ross Schuchman; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Betty Scarbough, William, John and Edward Rebel. Friends were received at the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Avalon. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Mary Church in Glenfield.

She is survived by two children, Joane Lapsley and her husband David and Frank L. Klasterka and his wife Lisa; her sister, Anna Marie Zacharias; three grandchildren, Bill Lapsley, Frank and Katelyn Klasterka; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosemary Miller and Eleanor Hirsch.

John Gregor John T. Gregor, 87, of Pittsburgh, husband of the late Gertrude Gregor, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2010 in Toledo, OH. Mr. Gregor was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, having served as a machine gun operator. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Bellevue Council #1400. He is survived by his stepdaughter, Barbara Mitchell; four siblings, George and Paul Gregor, both of Pittsburgh, Josephine Caughhorn of Toledo and Ann Bamiller of Chicago, IL; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Gregor.

Hellerman and his wife Marcia, Marie E. Griffin and her husband Harry and Allen B. Hellerman and his wife Barbara; her brother, Richard Roose; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Benjamin, John and Joseph Roose and Margaret Bordt.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Halsey; five grandchildren, Kelly, George, Kenny, Joe Jr. and his wife Audrey and Danny; a great-grandson, Joe III; her daughter-in-law, Debbie; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two children, Keith and Kristine; her sister, Marion; and her granddaughter, Melissa.

Rosemary Heflin Rosemary Heflin, 77, of Bellevue, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009. Mrs. Heflin was a local politician serving as a Bellevue Council member and mayor. She is survived by her husband, Jack F. Heflin; six children, Kathy Conlon and her husband Tom of Tampa, FL, Roberta J. Conway and her husband Michael of Bellevue, Judith Glinski of Moon Township, Laura Ann Kozlowski of West View, Jack F. Heflin Jr. of Bellevue and David E. Heflin and his wife Jennifer of Emsworth; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandchild.

Bernauer and his wife Wilma of Avalon and Leonard L. Bernauer and his wife Barbara of Yardley, PA; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Elenora Schweitzer Bernauer; and four siblings, Frederick Jr., Glenn H., Clara A. and Velma M. "Sue" Bernauer.

Patricia Synan Patricia Ann “Patti” Synan of West View died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009. Mrs. Synan was the owner and operator of Patti's Styling Salon in Bellevue. She was a professional hair stylist in various salons in the North Hills for more than 20 years before opening her own salon in 1989. She enjoyed cruises with family members and dinners with friends.

Tempers flared at Emsworth Council's regular meeting on Wednesday during a normally routine item on council's agenda.

When it came time to approve the boroughs bill’s for the month, finance committee chairman David Heflin questioned two of the expenditures on the bill list, neither of which had received pre-approval from council.

The first was $321 for an appreciation dinner held for former borough solicitor Mike Marmo. The second was the painting of two of the borough's trucks at a cost of $1,500.

Walter Beals Walter Beals, 67, of Ross Township, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009. Mr. Beals was a graduate of Bellaire High School and Duquesne University. He taught in the Pittsburgh Public School District for more than 30 years. During retirement, he enjoyed painting, sculpting, gardening and golf, tennis and bowling. He is survived by two children, Suzi Shaw and Steven Patton; and his sister, Tamara Pinarich. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Voynick.

Avalon-Bellevue Kiwanis Club member Lenora Bauer presents Bellevue Police Officer Michael Hudson with a $500 contribution to the DARE program, which targets issues of substance abuse and bullying among school children. The Kiwanis Club, a longtime supporter of the local DARE program, made a final contribution Monday evening before the club disbanded.
