Two burglaries and several thefts were among incidents reported to Avalon Police recently.

Two jars of coins totaling about $270 were reported stolen in the burglary of a South Home Avenue apartment on March 26.

A second apartment burglary was reported on March 27 on California Avenue. A laptop computer and credit and identification cards were reported stolen.

Four Pittsburgh residents have been charged in a Union Avenue home invasion that occurred on Aug. 12.

Avalon Police were called to the home just after three males and a female -- who was related to the victim -- pushed their way into the home occupied by a woman and her baby. They are reported to have stolen a laptop computer, an autographed baseball, a cell phone and $500 in cash before fleeing on foot.

The four were discovered in Bellevue, near Orchard and North Sprague avenues, and taken into custody without incident.

A burglary in the 600 block of Forest Avenue was reported May 7. The resident reported several items stolen.

A laptop computer and PS3 machine were reported stolen during a burglary at a home in the 400 block of Dawson Avenue on May 3.

Bellevue's director of administrative services hopes to get rid of piles of paper that get carted up to council meetings by replacing them with a laptop computer.

Council voted unanimously on Feb. 16 to purchase a laptop at a cost of not more than $800.

Police responded to two accidents on Union Avenue attributed to manholes exposed during road construction. Both occurred on June 20. In the first, the vehicle was towed after the car’s oil pan was damaged. In the second, the driver told police that hitting the manhole caused the vehicle to come to a stop and the air bags deployed.
