Employee remembered

The April 19 Northgate School District Board meeting was opened by honoring an employee who died recently of cancer.

Paul Schmidt had worked for the district since graduating from Bellevue High School in 1978. He started his career as a janitor, and held several positions,until his most recent in preventive maintenance.

Northgate had a fine tradition of letting their alumni return in the summer and use their facilities to train for their particular collegiate sport. It was an unsupervised honor system that worked well. I know this personally from having coached at Northgate for 10 years. But this tradition was brought to an end by a rookie janitor.
