Helen Crooks
Helen Reitz Crooks, 79, wife of the late William H. Crooks Sr., died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011.
Mrs. Crooks enjoyed cooking and making cookies. She was an avid reader, enjoyed bowling, bingo, trivia games and traveling.
In a simple ceremony held on July 25 in his front yard and with just a handful of friends and family looking on, the Honorary Consul of France named Thomas Scholler a "Chevalier of the Legion of Honor as a sign of France's gratitude for personal contributions to the liberation of our country during World War II."
A similar ceremony held in Washington, D.C. in June honored recipients from across the nation, but Scholler said that he did not feel up to making the trip.
Patricia Synan
Patricia Ann “Patti” Synan of West View died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009.
Mrs. Synan was the owner and operator of Patti's Styling Salon in Bellevue. She was a professional hair stylist in various salons in the North Hills for more than 20 years before opening her own salon in 1989. She enjoyed cruises with family members and dinners with friends.
NASA astronaut and Air Force Col. Mike Fincke spoke to Avonworth Middle School students, high school science students and the student body at the elementary school last week, encouraging them to work hard to achieve their goals.
Fincke said that he has been fortunate to do what he always had wanted to do, but admitted, “I’ve had the same amount of failure as success.”
