A clerk at the BP gas station on Route 65 in Avalon was held at knifepoint during a robbery on Dec. 23.

Police say the man -- described as a black male with a thin build -- demanded money from the cash register, then threw a dollar on the counter -- apparently in payment for a candy bar -- before running out of the station and south on Route 65.

A robber armed with what may have been a toy handgun disappeared into the woods after struggling with the clerk at the Marathon gas station on Union Avenue on Monday.

The clerk told police that a white male dressed all in black, wearing a stocking over his head, came into the store and demanded money. She said that he displayed a weapon that she believed to be a fake gun, and reached into the cash register to take the money.

Although it appeared that few people on Bellevue Council actually wanted to pay a new part-time office clerk $15 per hour, a resolution doing just that was approved by officials at Tuesday’s work session.

Miscues, misinformation, lack of preparation, bad acoustics and outright distrust factored into a series of events that ended with the hiring of a temporary office clerk at the same salary paid to the former assistant director of administrative services.

DAS Doug Sample defended the higher hourly pay rate, arguing that job would entail more than just clerical work.

Pursuit of an attempted robbery suspect opened the door to a narcotics investigation for Avalon Police.

Responding to a hold-up alarm at the gas station on Union Avenue on Sept. 13, officers were told that a man had come into the store with a bandanna over his face, hands in his pockets, and said the wanted “the drawer.” He left without taking anything when informed by the clerk that police were on their way.

Two robberies -- including the armed robbery of a clerk at a Bellevue business -- as well as a number of burglaries were among incidents investigated recently by the Bellevue Police Department.

A white male armed with a handgun is reported to have robbed the Bellevue Beer distributor on Ohio River Boulevard on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. The robber was wearing a blue hoodie and carrying a black bag. Allegheny County Police were asked to assist in the investigation.

Also on Aug. 28, a man came to the police station to report that he had been robbed by someone he knew.
