A Northgate graduate and Westminster College football player has been named to the second team all Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC).

Senior wide receiver Jon Gubish was named for the first time in his collegiate career.

Gubish ranked third in the PAC with 6.5 receptions and 80.8 receiving yards per game. He caught 52 passes for 646 yards and eight touchdowns in the 2009 season.

Northgate had a fine tradition of letting their alumni return in the summer and use their facilities to train for their particular collegiate sport. It was an unsupervised honor system that worked well. I know this personally from having coached at Northgate for 10 years. But this tradition was brought to an end by a rookie janitor. Let me explain:

An Avonworth High School graduate is part of Westminster College's swimming and diving recruiting class of 2009.

Carolyn Swarlis, daughter of Paul and Teresa Swarlis, will swim for Westminster's team next year.

As part of the combined Northgate/Avon-worth swim teams, Swarlis competed with three relay squads that set school records, the 200 and 400 meter freestyle and the 200 medley teams. She also set the individual school record in the 100 freestyle.

She earned high honors at Avonworth, and earned the Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award.
