Civil service

Whether or not you believe that any part of last weekend's tragedy in Tucson is attributable to rabid political rhetoric, this is not a bad time to call on our leaders to truly encompass the concept of "civil" service.

I consider myself to be a most ardent supporter of the First Amendment, but even I would say that just because you CAN say something, that doesn't mean that you should.

Even the most disagreeable opinions can be phrased in such a way as to show at least a modicum of respect for the other side.

Obituaries 12-3-10

Audrey Andrews Audrey E. Andrews, 91, of Brighton Heights, formerly of Warrendale, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010. She is survived by four children, Barbara Hyde, Joanne Hyde, Andrew Golden and his wife Kathleen and Maureen Golden; four grandchildren, Jeff, Sherry, Jay and Afton; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Eva Andrews. Services and burial were private. Memorial contributions are suggested to Forbes Hospice. Arrangements were made by McDonald-Linn Funeral Home, Avalon.

State busts local drug ring

An interstate drug trafficking ring based in Ohio Township was closed down last week when a state grand jury returned indictments against 12 men.

The investigation by the state Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation was called “Operation Infamous Choppers” after the Camp Horne Road, Ohio Township business that served as the base for a drug ring that officials say brought some $2 million worth of marijuana from Mexico, by way of Arizona, to Western Pennsylvania.
