The Friends of Bayne Library will hold a "Holiday Vendor Fair" at the library on Saturday, Nov. 20, noon - 4 p.m.

A “Babysitting 101” class will be offered Saturday, Feb. 25, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Sewickley Public Library community room.

This course, facilitated by Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, helps boys and girls ages 11 and older gain the knowledge and skills needed to become responsible babysitters. Stu-dents learn about safety for themselves and the children in their care. First aid basics, choking rescue techniques, child development, and routine daily care are covered.

Students are asked to bring a bag lunch to the class. The library will provide drinks and snacks.

Several events are planned at Avalon Public Library this month.

There will be a fund-raising committee meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m.

The library has started a new knitting/crochet/needlework group. It is an informal gathering in the front reading room on the first and third Tuesdays of every month from 6 to 7:45 p.m.

The movie “Ghost Writer” will be shown on Oct. 23 at 10 a..m. and 1 p.m.

There will be a Halloween party for children on Oct. 29 from 6 to 7 p.m.

Avalon Council voted unanimously at its July 20 meeting to close California Avenue in front of the borough building on Sept. 18 for an event to benefit the Avalon Public Library.

The library will hold a "Touch a Truck" event in which children can interact with emergency vehicles. It will be held from noon to 4 p.m. The library will sell books and food to raise money.

Council voted to close the street from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Council members Dave Dixon and Vicki Donnelly were absent.
