Looking out at the warm, bright sunshine, it's hard to believe that Christmas is just a few weeks away.

But believe it or not, the holiday season is rapidly approaching, complete with that extra long "to do" list as we prepare to celebrate family, friends, and the joy of the season itself.

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the 10 o'clock breakfast crowd at Totin's Diner on Perry Highway in Wexford extends out the door, hungry Christmas shoppers waiting for available seating.

The kindergarten class at Bellevue Elementary School taught by Elizabeth Doerr wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving as they donned costumes and made headdresses to become a tribe of Native Americans. The students performed a holiday pageant for their parents Tuesday morning, then enjoyed a small Thanksgiving feast of their own.

A tentative calendar for the 2010-11 school year was approved Monday by the Avonworth School Board.

If it receives final approval, the calendar will schedule the following:

The first day for students will be on Aug. 25. The schools will close for Labor Day on Sept. 6.

Schools will operate on a two-hour delay schedule on Sept. 15 for teacher-inservice.

Students will not have classes on Oct. 11, Columbus Day, which will serve as an Act 80 day for staff.

Another Act 80 day for staff is scheduled for Nov. 24, which cancels classes for students.

Assumption School will hold a preschool story time on Thursday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m.

Children ages 3-5 and their parents, are invited to attend. There will be stories, crafts, music and refreshments for the Thanksgiving season.
