Joann Johnson Joann A. Kaib Johnson, 65, of Glenfield and Ohio Township, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed coloring, Bingo and trips to the casino.

Catherine E. Desso Catherine E. (Cass) Desso, 91 of Leeper, PA, formerly of Bellevue died January 26, 2011. She was preceded in death by Paul, her husband of 52 years. She retired from Suburban General Hospital after 18 years as a pediatric supervisor. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years and a charter member of the Christian Mothers Guild at Assumption Church.

Chuck Gohn, pastor of Bellevue Christian Church, spoke to Bellevue Council at its regular meeting on Aug. 24 to promote "Improve the Vue" Day, and to request the help of council in distributing flyers and information.

The day of community service will be held on Oct.9. Gohn said that organizers hope to recruit 300 to 500 volunteers from civic organizations to work on various improvement projects in Bellevue.

A last ditch legal challenge to stop the changes scheduled to go into effect today at Allegheny General Hospital - Suburban Campus is running into challenges of its own. Attorneys for West Penn Allegheny Health System and the Suburban General Hospital Advisory Board were in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas Thursday, appearing before Judge Ronald Folino.

At issue was whether the court should issue an injunction stopping the hospital from closing its emergency room and inpatient units, and whether the group asking for the injunction had any legal right to do so.

Catherine Majestic Catherine J. Majestic of Bellevue and Avalon died Thursday, May 6, 2010. Ms. Majestic had been a volunteer at Suburban General Hospital and Lutheran Services in Bellevue. She is survived by six nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews; and two great-grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Julia Majestic; and five siblings, George J., Frank G., Joseph M., Albert H. and Margaret Majestic.

There are two very popular programs on television: “Survivor” and “The Biggest Loser.” I watch The Biggest Loser because I sincerely root for all the people working 100 percent harder than I ever could to become healthier, look better and live longer. That they may gain quite a bit of money in the doing is of no concern to me. “Survivor,” on the other hand, is all about putting everyone else out of commission. Ironically, I think the titles of these two programs should be reversed.

Mary M. Carte Mary M. Carte, 73 of Steubenville, OH, died Saturday, April 3, 2010 in Weirton Medical Center. Mrs. Carte was born on Aug. 19, 1936 in Emsworth. She was retired from Suburban General Hospital in as a nurse. She was Catholic by faith, and was a volunteer for the United Way and Red Cross. She was past president of the Women’s Club, and enjoyed reading, line dancing and bowling.

John Connolly Jr. John “J” Wray Connolly Jr., of Ohio Township died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009.
