Just because it’s the dead of winter doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a movie at the drive-in. You just have to follow the lead of a group of local children who created their own drive-in theater, complete with their own vehicles, at Bayne Library in Bellevue last Saturday. Aiden Russell, 7, of Brighton Heights, decided that his vehicle was going to be a monster truck, “Autobot.” After building their vehicles, the kids enjoyed snacks and a movie.

Santa Claus was back in the Boroughs last Saturday, bringing along his wife to visit with children and pets. Santa and Mrs. Claus chatted with Mia, age 3, of Bellevue, pictured here, to find out what she hopes to receive when Santa makes his rounds on Christmas Eve. Santa also will be working with the Avalon and Ben Avon volunteer fire companies to visit children at their homes, and parents can register their children for a visit with the forms on Page 3 of this week's paper.

Eric Cosmides has good reason to be leading up a team of volunteers who will assemble 800 brown bag lunches for cyclists riding in the Tour de Cure fund-raiser for the American Diabetes Association this weekend in Harmony, PA.

His efforts will serve as his senior project at Avonworth High School, but, more importantly, it will send a personal message of the need to find a cure from someone who has lived with diabetes for more than six years.

"I was diagnosed with Type I juvenile diabetes in May of 2005," Eric, 17, said.

Holiday celebrations around the North Boroughs kicked off last Friday when Bellevue welcomed Santa Claus and friends. Sponsored by the North Suburban Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Borough of Bellevue, the celebration featured a variety of entertainment and business-related events for those willing to brave the cold. Emsworth will host its annual tree lighting tonight, while Avalon has an entire day of festivities planned for Dec. 11.

Allegheny County Police have filed several charges against a local emergency medical technician (EMT) and firefighter accused of “sexting” with a 16-year-old Bellevue girl.

Thomas Scott George, 44, of Avalon, faces felony charges of dissemination of pornography to a minor and unlawful contact with a minor, as well as a misdemeanor charge of corruption of minors, in connection with exchanges he had with the girl on Aug. 4.

Vehicle break-ins have kept Bellevue Police busy in recent weeks.

On Aug. 19, Bellevue Police received three separate reports of thefts from vehicles at different locations: Arch Avenue, Grant Avenue and Washington Avenue.

On Aug. 22, a West Riverview Avenue resident reported that, overnight, cash had been stolen from a car.

On Aug. 24, a South Bryant Avenue resident reported an overnight theft from a vehicle.

A South Harrison Avenue resident reported on Aug. 27 that a vehicle had been entered overnight and property taken.

Dolores Stapanik Dolores "Dolly" Stapanik died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Hardesty; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Rozalia Stapanik; and four siblings, Mary Louise Wisniowski, John Stapanik, Agnes Kosinski and Helen Westover. Friends were received at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral mass was held in Risen Lord Church on Friday. Joanne Searight Joanne M. Searight, 81, of Brighton Heights, wife of the late Lynn R. Searight, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015.

Jessica Nichole Miller, 26, was charged with disorderly conduct on Ohio River Boulevard on Aug. 30.

Michael R. Dirscoll was charged with driving under the influence on Ohio River Boulevard on Aug. 30.

Christopher R. Bushaw, 39, was charged with public drunkenness on Aug. 30, at the intersection of Sedalia and New Brighton roads.

Paul Glevicky Jr. Paul A. Glevicky Jr., 78, of Brighton Heights, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015. He worked in the steel industry for 47 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing bingo.

Rege Costello walks six miles each day, weather permitting, two miles after each meal, mostly along the streets of his hometown, Emsworth, on into Ben Avon and sometimes maybe to the Avalon border.

At one time not so long ago, though, Rege was running those streets, as well as marathons in South Park, North Park, Johnstown, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Boston. In all, 49 marathons, Boston being the easiest, in Rege's opinion.

"No steep hills!" he said.

But then came a hill too steep for him to climb: torn knee cartilage, and Marathon 50 would forever elude him.

Evelyn Guzzo Evelyn Arndt Guzzo, 66, of Coraopolis, died Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in Good Samaritan Hospice of Beaver. Mrs. Guzzo was a 1966 graduate of Moon High School. She served on the Coraopolis Public Library board for nine years. She was an avid reader and a sketch artist.

On July 2, Bellevue Police received a report of vandalism from a Teece Avenue resident whose vehicle’s mirror had been damaged.

A television was reported stolen from an apartment on Teece Avenue on July 3.

An assault on Laurel Avenue was reported July 5.

On July 13, police received a report of criminal mischief. A Sheridan Avenue resident reported that a tire had been slashed.

A Division Avenue resident reported debit card fraud on July 13.

On July 13, an iPod was reported to have been stolen from a vehicle parked at the intersection of South Jackson and Lincoln avenues.

Following a traffic stop by Avalon Police on Ohio River Boulevard on July 3, Anton Terrell Brown, 36, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Avalon Police received a report of a cell phone and charger having been taken from a patron at a bar on July 4.

Jared Dalton Hook, 29, was charged with public drunkenness at an Ohio River Boulevard restaurant on July 5.

On July 6, Avalon Police received a report of a 9 mm gun having been stolen from the floor of a vehicle sometime between July 1 and July 6.

Sr. Virginia Cummings Sr. Virginia "Ginny" Cummings, OSF, 89, of the School Sisters of St. Francis of the United States Province, died Friday, July 10, 2015 in Mt. Assisi Convent Motherhouse, Ross Township.

Dr. James V. Jordan Dr. James V. Jordan, 72, of Bellevue, died July 6, 2015. Mr. Jordan practiced law for many years from his office in Bellevue. He was the beloved husband of the late Sara "Sally" Jordan; son of the late Harry and Mary Jordan; brother of Harry and the late William Jordan; uncle of Jessica and Meggan. Visitation will be held Friday, July 10, 2-8 p.m. at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Brighton Heights. A Blessing Service will be held Saturday, july 11, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by interment at Greenwood memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
