Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bellevue will celebrate its annual Women’s Day on Sunday, May 20.

The theme for the day is “Women of Courage.” Scripture reference is taken from Esther 7:3.

Rev. Marie Kelly, associate minister at Calvary Baptist Church in Pittsburgh, will be the guest preacher for the morning worship service at 11 a.m. Rev. Carol Bronaugh, pastor of Victory Temple Original Church of God in Pittsburgh, will be the guest preacher for the afternoon service beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Ann Deckenbach Ann L. Erdner Deckenbach, 93, of Oakmont, formerly of Avalon and wife of the late Charles Deckenbach, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011. She is survived by her daughter, Paula "P.J." Bombara; three sisters, Margaret Diroll, Sophia Pike and Dorothy Delp; and her granddaughter, Alecia M. Bombara. She was preceded in death by six siblings, Edith Munk, Mary Backe, Paul, Joseph, John and Edward Erdner. Friends were received at Burket-Truby Funeral Home, Oakmont, where services were held.

Bellevue U.P. Church gets interior facelift

“When we were doing our exterior facelift around four years ago,” Rev. Catherine Purves, minister of Bellevue United Presbyterian Church, recalled, “people kept asking if we were going to sandblast the stone too.” “No way,” she told them. “We earned that good Pittsburgh soot.” The blackened old church on Lincoln Avenue next to Bellevue Elementary has been a neighborhood institution for 109 years.

Rosemary Heflin Rosemary Heflin, 77, of Bellevue, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009. Mrs. Heflin was a local politician serving as a Bellevue Council member and mayor. She is survived by her husband, Jack F. Heflin; six children, Kathy Conlon and her husband Tom of Tampa, FL, Roberta J. Conway and her husband Michael of Bellevue, Judith Glinski of Moon Township, Laura Ann Kozlowski of West View, Jack F. Heflin Jr. of Bellevue and David E. Heflin and his wife Jennifer of Emsworth; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandchild.
