Tempers flared at Emsworth Council's regular meeting on Wednesday during a normally routine item on council's agenda.

When it came time to approve the boroughs bill’s for the month, finance committee chairman David Heflin questioned two of the expenditures on the bill list, neither of which had received pre-approval from council.

The first was $321 for an appreciation dinner held for former borough solicitor Mike Marmo. The second was the painting of two of the borough's trucks at a cost of $1,500.

Emergency repair An emergency repair to a lateral sewer line near the Emsworth borough garage was approved by Emsworth Council at its regular meeting on Wednesday.

The repairs will cost some $37,000.

According to council member Paul Getz, the Allegheny County Health Department notified the borough that the sewer line was leaking into Lowries Run Creek.

Council unanimously authorized the repairs.

Council members Ed Politylo and Rob Bennett were absent.

Emsworth Borough Council has cleared the way for another bar to open up shop in Emsworth.

Council unanimously authorized, at its regular meeting on June 11, the transfer of a liquor license to Gennaro's Cafe, Inc. at 8070 Ohio River Blvd. The license will be coming from an bar in McKeesport, according to borough solicitor Mike Marmo.

A public hearing was held prior to the council meeting for residents to voice their concerns over the transfer. There were no comments from the public.
