Avalon residents and officials took exception to remarks made during a Bellevue Council meeting regarding the management of the swimming pools in both boroughs last year.

The two boroughs hired a joint manager last summer, Liesl Klicker of Avalon. In deciding to hire a pool management company this year, Bellevue residents and officials argued that having a manager who traveled between the pools was a safety problem, and that professional management was needed.

Avalon Elementary parking Borough officials and Avalon PTO members have come up with a plan to help ease parking problems created when parents drop-off and pick-up their child-ren at school.

A resolution approved by Avalon Council at its Aug. 18 meeting will allow parents to purchase a parking permit that will let them park in front of the school, between North School Street and North Chestnut Street, from 7:30 until 8:30 a.m. and from 2:30 until 4 p.m. on weekdays.

Shared passes? Shared services at the Bellevue and Avalon swimming pools might someday go a step further.

This year, for the first time, the two boroughs are sharing a pool manager and lifeguards, coordinating programs and moving personnel between the pools as necessary.

Bellevue parks committee chairman Steve Mosolansky, speaking at the pre-council meeting held July 24, suggested allowing pass holders at both pools to visit the other pool at no additional charge.
