Although North Boroughs Democrats will help nominate candidates for U.S. Congress in the April 24 primary election, the state races to be decided are all about the Republicans.

At issue this year are the state house seat nomination in the 16th Legislative district, and the GOP nomination for the 37th District senatorial seat.

Two Republicans are seeking their party's nomination for the state house seat in the 16th Legislative District, which includes only Bellevue from among the North Boroughs communities.

With five council seats to be filled, the Nov. 3 general election is an important one for Bellevue. There are contests to be decided in each of the borough's three wards.

First Ward

Voters will choose two representatives from among four candidates running for council in the first ward. Incumbents Jane Braunlich (Democrat) and Kathleen Coder (Republican) are joined on their respective ballots by newcomers Susan Schafer and David Piet.

Daniel K. Fiorenzo Daniel K. Fiorenzo, 52, of Bellevue, died Saturday Aug. 1, 2009. He was a member of BAC Local 9. He leaves his wife, Leslie (Bunce); six sons, Daniel G., Bryan F., David D., Erik R., Richard C., and Jacob J., all of Bellevue; his mother, Hilda Fiorenzo; a sister, Janice Pletz of Bethal Park; and brother Anthony of Bellevue. He was preceded in death by his father, Generoso; and two brothers, Philip and Richard Fiorenzo. Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home in Bellevue, where a blessing service was held Wednesday.
