Having a tough time finding their offense again, the Avonworth baseball team was no match for section leader Vincentian when the teams played at home this past Wednesday.

The Royals, on the other hand, used a 17-hit attack in disposing of the Antelopes 15-2.

Vincentian got five of those hits in the top of the first against pitcher Frank Restelli to take an early 2-0 lead.

The Antelopes responded with a lead-off double by Coby Croft and an RBI hit to center by Carl Pietrusinski to put the score at 2-1.

Struggling to find some consistency from the plate this past Monday, the Avonworth baseball team lost their section opener at home to Sewickley Academy 6-3.

Although the team was limited to four hits, Antelope starting pitcher Frank Restelli did a good job through the first five innings, giving up five hits while recording seven strike-outs to keep the contest close until late in the game.

"You can't win a baseball game if you can't swing a baseball bat," said coach Phil Coffin after the game.

Although the Avonworth baseball team lost its first two games -- nonsection contests against AA teams -- it’s too early to tell how well the season will go for the young team.

Last year Avonworth lost a handful of games at the start of the season, but turned things around and went 10-0 and undefeated in the section to win the 4A championship.
