A home on Florence Avenue was reported broken into on Nov. 12.

Police apprehended a man reportedly seen breaking into a West Riverview Avenue home on Nov. 17.

A North Harrison Avenue resident told police Nov. 17 that someone had come into the home, turned on the stove burners, and stolen a Wii game console.

A laptop computer was reported stolen during a burglary at an apartment in the 100 block of Lincoln Avenue on Nov. 21.

The driver of a vehicle hit by a tractor trailer was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital on June 29.

Police say the woman’s car was forced into a spin, and then into oncoming traffic, when the large commercial vehicle attempted to change lanes.

One vehicle was towed from an accident at Florence and South Chestnut avenues on June 28.

Police received a complaint June 25 from a woman who said that a friend to whom she had given a ride stole two bottles of prescription medication, cash and a dozen DVDs from her vehicle.

A resident living near Spruce Alley called Avalon police on May 9 after witnessing someone break into a car parked in the alley. Police found a Chevy with a smashed passenger side window and the truck partially open. The witness told police a white male wearing shorts and a t-shirt had broken into the car, then fled in another vehicle.

Two young men suspected of breaking into vehicles in Avalon and Bellevue were arrested by Avalon Police last week.

Avalon Borough will charge less for garbage collection this year, and possibly institute some new collection procedures, after a standing-room-only crowd debated officials for more than an hour and a half at Tuesday's borough council meeting.

The Avalon Police Department’s war on drugs -- and drug dealers -- continued last weekend as officers conducted surveillance and netted 30 stamp bags of heroin and one suspected drug dealer.

Police say they observed a drug transaction at the corner of Orchard and Cleveland avenues on Saturday, Dec. 4. Layton Burks, 21, of Florence Avenue, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver, delivery of 10 stamp bags of heroin, resisting arrest and possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

A Malvern Road man picked a bad time to step outside his house to smoke a joint. Police were at the house next door on Nov. 29 when they say they observed Gregory Lee, 42, step out his back door and light up. They smelled marijuana, and charged Lee with disorderly conduct. He was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant as well.

Jesse Lee Richard, 25, of Fisk Avenue, was picked up on an outstanding warrant on Dec. 2.

A Union Avenue resident reported Nov. 27 that eggs had been thrown at her home.

Avalon mayor David Haslett cast the deciding vote to authorize another handicapped parking space on Florence Avenue.

Opponents said that the resident requesting the additional space has a garage located on his property, and there are reserved parking spaces for the disabled a couple houses away on Florence, as well as two nearby on Elizabeth Avenue.

Witnesses told police on July 1 that they had observed a man urinating on the wall of the church near the borough hall on California Avenue. Daniel Starkey, 46, of California Avenue, was charged with disorderly conduct.

William Lamb, 25, of Pittsburgh 15205, was charged with public drunkenness after police found him passed out on a lawn on McKinley Avenue on July 3.

A license plate was reported stolen July 2 from a vehicle belonging to Avalon Pharmacy.

A vehicle owned by a Pittsburgh resident was reported stolen from Avalon on July 6.

Avalon Police responded to a traffic accident at the Marathon station on Union Avenue on May 14. Police found a vehicle wedged between two steel poles that were attached to the gas station sign.

An Avalon man was arrested May for for the theft of prescription medications from a Florence Avenue residence on May 13. Charged was Stephen Fazio of Cleveland Avenue.

Police responding to a report of a domestic disturbance on Virginia Avenue on Feb. 26 ended up chasing a suspect who fled on foot. Adolfo Castillo, 26, was cited for public drunkenness.

Ronald Daugherty, 18, of Florence Avenue, was cited for disorderly conduct on Feb. 26 after police were called to a disturbance at his home and found him to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

About a dozen people remain excluded from their apartments in a South Birmingham Avenue building after a water pipe break last saturday caused to building to be condemned.

Kathleen Snyder Kathleen E. Snyder died Wednesday, June 10, 2009. She is survived by her goddaughter, Kathleen Starkey Cooley and her husband Timothy and their children, Allison and Jordan Cooley; her cousin, Jefferson Starkey and his wife Shannon and godchildren Shawn and Aleisha Starkey. She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Miller Snyder; her uncle, Louis Miller; and her cousin, Judith Mulder. Friends were received at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral mass was held in Risen Lord Church on Saturday.

A home on Means Avenue was reported burglarized on April 21.

A resident on Watkins Avenue reported on April 27 that her home had been burglarized.

A vehicle on Sumner Avenue was reported stolen on April 22. The vehicle later was recovered by Pittsburgh Police.

A North Sprague Avenue resident reported April 22 that her vehicle had been stolen during the night.

The unauthorized use of a credit card was reported by a resident of North Balph Avenue on April 23.

Classic Chevrolet reported on April 27 that two of its company-owned vehicles were vandalized over the weekend.
