Joan Bechtel Joan Marie Bechtel, 75, of Clarks Summit, PA, formerly of Bellevue, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, PA. Ms. Bechtel was a Bellevue High School graduate. She was a retired executive secretary of Harbison-Walker in Pittsburgh. She was an active volunteer at Meals On Wheels and at Allegheny General Hospital. She was an avid traveler.

The burglary of an Orchard Avenue house that was being remodeled was reported to Avalon Police on Nov. 2. Police say that newly-installed copper pipes were stolen, along with tools. Also, police say, windows were shattered in the kitchen and living room.

Todd Erdlen, 26, of Cranberry Township, was charged with driving under the influence and careless driving on Oct. 31.

James Adams III, 37, of Fisk Avenue, was cited for public drunkenness on Nov. 4 after he refused to leave California Avenue and became argumentative, police say.

Michael Hilf Michael K. Hilf, 49, of Cranberry Township, formerly of Avalon, died Sunday, May 30, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lucina Hilf; two daughters, Ashley and Becky; two sisters, Linda Hilf and Kathy Schreibeis and her husband Milton; and nieces, nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Lou Hilf. Friends were received at Devlin Funeral Home of Cranberry until the time of services on Saturday. Contributions are suggested to the family.

William Boyd William John Boyd, 60, of Emsworth, died Sunday, June 6, 2010.

Walter Beals Walter Beals, 67, of Ross Township, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009. Mr. Beals was a graduate of Bellaire High School and Duquesne University. He taught in the Pittsburgh Public School District for more than 30 years. During retirement, he enjoyed painting, sculpting, gardening and golf, tennis and bowling. He is survived by two children, Suzi Shaw and Steven Patton; and his sister, Tamara Pinarich. He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Voynick.

Edith Freed Edith McClelland Freed, 93, formerly of Bellevue and wife of the late David S. McClelland and Charles W. Freed, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009 in Baptist Home. Mrs. Freed was a member of the Eastern Star for 50 years. She is survived by three children, Donald K. McClelland, Sharon L. Freed and Patricia E. Fasciano and her husband David; her grandson, Marc McClelland; her sister-in-law, Lucille McClelland; her goddaughter, Patti Drake; and nieces and nephews.
