The Northgate Flames continued their icy skid this week, dropping two section games with losses to Seton LaSalle and Carlynton. Northgate lost to the Carylnton Cougars 61-58 on Tuesday, increasing the winless streak to 12 games. Head coach Perry Harrop said that although the Flames cut down on the number of turnovers and were shooting the ball well offensively, the difference-maker in the game was the number of three-pointers made by both sides. He said Carlynton hit 10 threes, while Northgate dropped only six.

Flames grow cold on court

The weather isn't the only thing that has been a little cold the last few weeks. The Northgate boys' basketball team has lost five games in a row.

Flames' head coach Perry Harrop attributes the team's struggles to their turnover woes.

"Turnovers are a major issue," he said. "It is a season-long problem."

Harrop said that Northgate is turning over the ball about once in every three possessions. He noted that teams he has coached in the past had turnover averages below 20 percent.

Harrop said that the Flames also are having trouble converting foul shots.

Flames get first lead of season, lose game

Last Friday’s game featured two Century Conference teams in search of their first win of the season when the Northgate Flames played host to the South Park Eagles. Although the Flames turned in their best effort of the season, they were on the losing end of the 13-7 final score.
