The annual Children's Hospital holiday auction sponsored by Avonworth student councils has kicked off its drive to gather items that will be used for bidding at this year's auctions. The high school has scheduled its auction for Dec.16, starting at 7:30 a.m., with the middle school auction scheduled for Dec.17, starting at 8:30 a.m..

Items may be sent to the school with a student, or community residents may deliver items to the offices during school hours.

Ralph Smith Ralph E. "Bud" Smith, 85, of Bellevue, died Monday, July 19, 2010. Mr. Smith was a 1944 graduate of Bellevue High School and attended Pittsburgh Accountancy Academy, now Robert Morris University. He was a career life underwriter and was retired from Children's Hospital. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, past president of Avalon/Bellevue Kiwanis and a longtime member of Greenstone United Methodist Church in Avalon. He enjoyed his petunia garden.
