The turning lane between Camp Horne Road and the bridge that carries Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) over Lowries Run near Hiland Avenue in Emsworth closed on Monday, and will remain closed until November.

Motorists will still be able to access Camp Horne Road.

The $2.9 million project includes replacement of the existing single span through-girder bridge over Lowries Run, approach work and other miscellaneous construction between Locust Street and Beaver Avenue. The prime contractor is the Lane Construction Company of Pittsburgh. Overall work will be completed this fall.

A unanimous vote by Emsworth Council Wednesday evening put an end to a firestorm -- literally, in some residents’ opinions -- that erupted one week before when the Avonworth Community Park executive board approved a lease that would allow drilling beneath park property for natural gas, part of the lucrative Marcellus Shale reservoir.

An attempted vehicle break in was reported on Camp Horne Road in Kilbuck Township on Jan. 28. The complainant found one vehicle, a Chevy Metro, had the steering column broken and a tire iron was found next to the ignition. A second vehicle, a Mercury Villager, was found with the front driver’s side door partially opened. Both vehicles’ glove boxes were opened but nothing was reported stolen from either vehicle.

Daniel T. Rai, 45, from Pittsburgh, was arrested for driving under the influence following a traffic stop on Ohio River Boulevard in Kilbuck Township on Jan. 29.

PennDOT District 11 is announcing work to replace the bridge that carries Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) over Lowries Run between Hiland Avenue and Camp Horne Road in the Borough of Emsworth, Allegheny County, has concluded for this year’s construction season. Single lane traffic restrictions on Route 65 were lifted today, Friday, Dec. 3.

The restrictions were removed shortly before noon. Route 65 is now fully reopened to two lanes in each direction in this area.

A Pittsburgh man was charged with the theft of some 63 DVDs, valued at $1,000, from the Camp Horne Road Giant Eagle. Richard Santelli, 39, was stopped on Camp Horne Road by Ohio Township Police on Sept. 11.

Clayton Holman, 23, of Oakdale, was charged with resisting arrest and terroristic threats following a domestic in Emsworth on Sept. 13.

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) in the Borough of Emsworth, will be closed in both directions this weekend, Aug. 27-30.

Crews will be installing a temporary support beam to allow traffic to remain on the existing bridge over Lowries Run between Hiland Avenue and Camp Horne Road while long-term construction to replace the structure continues. This beam installation work cannot occur with traffic on Route 65.

John Arnett, 29, from Ross Township, was cited for careless driving and driving on a suspended license following a traffic stop on Camp Horne Road in Emsworth on Aug. 17.

On Aug. 14, Peter Waddell, 52, of Aliquippa, was arrested for driving under the influence following a traffic stop on Route 65 in Emsworth.

A resident of Eicher Road in Kilbuck Township reported stolen scrap metal from a dumpster in the yard on Aug.17.

A Bellevue man faces multiple felony charges after he attempted to outrun police on a motorcycle, then threw himself into oncoming traffic.

Police say that David Davis, 35, may have become agitated after being served with a Protection From Abuse (PFA) no-contact order earlier Wednesday night. About 1 a.m. Thursday, he was observed on a motorcycle on Ohio River Boulevard in Emsworth, where police say he ran the red light at Camp Horne Road.

Several arrests for disorderly conduct were made recently by Ohio Township Police.

David Schultz, 20, and David Lawson, 18, both of Ross Township, were cited following a traffic stop on Camp Horne Road on June 25.

Brandon P. Durler, 20, of Bellevue, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after he was discovered in Avon Park after hours on JUne 29.

Eric Wright, 36, of Verona, also was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on Camp Horne Road in Kilbuck Township on June 30.

Following a traffic accident on Camp Horne Road, Kilbuck Township, Janice Tucker, 55, of Bridgeville, was arrested for driving under the influence on June 20.

On June 19, Stephen Michalski Jr., 25, of Pittsburgh, was charged with driving under the influence on Camp Horne Road, Ohio Township.

At a traffic stop on Route 65 in Kilbuck Township on June 24, Lena Johnston, 32, of Aliquippa, was charged with driving under the influence. A passenger in Johnston's car, Anthony Vestazian, 30, of Aliquippa, was arrested for possession of suspected cocaine.

Vandalism at Marmo Park in Emsworth was discovered on June 7 and 8. An Ohio Township Police officer on patrol found overturned and broken tables on June 7, and received a report of more vandalism to the tables on June 8.

Thomas Kastory, 19, of Emsworth, was cited for disorderly conduct on June 9. Police say he was in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brian C. Cook, 43, of Ben Avon, was charged after a traffic stop on Ben Avon Heights Road in Ohio Township on June 4.

Saturday’s rains created a dangerous condition in Lowries Run Creek, and resulted in a Kilbuck Township boy having to be rescued from the rapidly moving waters on Sunday.

Ohio Township Police, NorthWest EMS and Emsworth Volunteer Fire Company responded Sunday afternoon to a report that a 17-year-old was under water in the creek behind his Kilbuck home.

Police say that Justin Singer’s mother was able to get him out of the water and onto the far creek bank. Firefighters set up rescue lines to get him back to the Camp Horne Road side of the creek.

A resident of Breading Avenue, Ben Avon, reported March 29 that a GPS unit had been stolen from a vehicle.

Calvin Altemus, 56, of Petrolia, PA, was picked up on an outstanding warrant on March 26 during a traffic stop on camp Horne Road in Kilbuck Township.

Stephen Bezak, 21, of Franklin Park, was charged with driving under the influence on March 27 after an accident at the intersection of Mt. Nebo and Camp Horne roads in Ohio Township.

A Ben Avon woman faces felony charges after a domestic at her home on March 22. Vera Pegher, 43, was arrested for aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats after she reportedly assaulted a family member.

Items were reported stolen during a vehicle break-in in the Animal Friends parking lot on Camp Horne Road, Ohio Township. Some 12 CDs and other items were reported stolen during the incident on March 23.

Animal Friends’ annual W(h)ine event will be held on Friday, April 16. The event is BYOD (Bring Your Own Dog).

The wine and cheese tasting will run from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Caryl Gates Gluck Resource Center on Camp Horne Road. Guests receive samples of wine and cheese along with explanations of different tastes and varietals, while treats are provided for dogs. Also included are raffles for the humans and a doggie social hour for the canines.

A traffic stop on Mt. Nebo Road on Feb. 27 resulted in the arrest of Jeffrey Hnat, 46, of Franklin Park.

Thomas Caccavo, 57, of Indianapolis, IN, was charged following a traffic stop on Camp Horne Road in Emsworth on Feb. 28.

Steve Hunt, 35, of McCandless, was arrested during a traffic stop on Camp Horne Road in Ohio Township on Feb. 28.

Arrested during a traffic stop on Mt. Nebo Road in Ohio Township on March 2 was Robert Leight, 58, of Franklin Park.

A car parked in the lot at Animal Friends on Camp Horne Road in Ohio Township was reported broken into on Feb. 21. A purse and cell phone were stolen, according to police.

Two people were taken into custody by Ohio Township Police on outstanding arrest warrants from Allegheny County. Timothy Grzandziele, 46, of Ohio Township, was picked up Feb. 19 on a warrant for a probation violation. Henry Lavrich, 25, of Kilbuck Township, was arrested Feb. 20 during a traffic stop.

Some 62 vehicles were stopped during a detail conducted Tuesday on Route 65 and Camp Horne Road, as well as on Neville Island.

Ohio Township Police hosted the detail as part of the North Hills Regional Vehicle Inspection Task Force.

According to police, eight trucks were taken out of service, and 53 citations were issued for motor vehicle code violations.

Among the citations were 16 for secure load problems, nine safety chain violations, 15 equipment violations, four weight problems and 15 brake violations.

An interstate drug trafficking ring based in Ohio Township was closed down last week when a state grand jury returned indictments against 12 men.

The investigation by the state Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation was called “Operation Infamous Choppers” after the Camp Horne Road, Ohio Township business that served as the base for a drug ring that officials say brought some $2 million worth of marijuana from Mexico, by way of Arizona, to Western Pennsylvania.
