Edward Sullivan Edward J. Sullivan, 82, of Avalon, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Olga "Ollie" Sullivan; his daughter, Barbara Ann Lint and her husband John of Scottdale, PA; his sister, Joan Gulizia and her husband Fred; three grandchildren, Michael "Buddy" Lint, A.J. And Christopher Sullivan; two great-granddaughters; and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Barry Sullivan.

Verna Gray Verna R. Gray, 94, of Avalon, wife of the late Lester F. Gray, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010. She is survived by two sons, Albert J. Gray and his wife Joann of Ohio Township and David R. Gray of Melbourne, FL; two siblings, Helen Guiser and Bill Euston; her grandson, Matthew D. Gray; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Meals.

Ralph Smith Ralph E. "Bud" Smith, 85, of Bellevue, died Monday, July 19, 2010. Mr. Smith was a 1944 graduate of Bellevue High School and attended Pittsburgh Accountancy Academy, now Robert Morris University. He was a career life underwriter and was retired from Children's Hospital. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, past president of Avalon/Bellevue Kiwanis and a longtime member of Greenstone United Methodist Church in Avalon. He enjoyed his petunia garden.

“St. Pitty’s Day” events

Animal Friends will host a "St. Pitty's Day" Pit Bull Adopt-a-thon on March 7.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes will be strolling around Animal Friends. There will be games and treats, Pit Bull education, a “Pitty Kissing Booth,” and “Pot O' Gold” specials in the boutique.

Many of the Pit Bulls' adoption donations will be underwritten by volunteers.

Northgate '79 Reunion

The Northgate High School Class of 1979 will hold its 30-year reunion on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m.

The reunion will be held at Sunny Jim’s Tavern, 255 Camp Horne Rd.

Pet Photos With Santa

Animal Friends will hold a "Pet Photos with Santa" event on Saturday, Nov. 21, and Sunday, Nov. 29, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

A bake sale also will be held on Nov. 21.

People are invited to bring their pets to Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Rd., to pose with Santa. Three 4x6 pictures cost $10 and will be mailed to participants.
