Four Garfield men have been arrested for the Feb. 24 armed robbery at Sunny Jim’s Tavern on Camp Horne Road.

Ohio Township Police Chief Beaver Micklos said that the men are suspected of committing as many as 12 armed robberies throughout the region, becoming progressively bolder and more dangerous as the crime spree continued.

Micklos said that Ohio Township Police worked with the Pennsylvania State Police to identify and apprehend the suspects, whose names have not yet been released, on March 4.

Ohio Township Police have identified the man who robbed an Emsworth resident on Jan. 10 as the same man arrested Thursday morning for the rapes of two women in Ross Township.

Ohio Township Police Chief Beaver Micklos said that his officers planned to file charges Thursday against Arthur Henderson, 38, of Ross, for the Jan. 10 robbery of Paul Leung in the parking lot of the House of Lee restaurant in Emsworth. Leung was seriously injured and robbed of $4,000 - $5,000 after returning to his residence above the restaurant after gambling at the North Side casino.

Ohio Township Police are warning residents not to let strangers into their homes after a group of scam artists were nearly successful in stealing property from an Emsworth woman.

Residents of Greenwood Avenue are asking Emsworth Council for help slowing down traffic on their street.

Lisa Young told council members at their meeting Wednesday that the speed limit signs posted by the borough several years ago in response to residents' concerns had not done anything to stop speeders. She presented a petition signed by neighbors asking for help due to the number of children, pets and senior citizens who live on the street.

Cameras will be installed in both Emsworth parks in an effort to stop vandalism.

Council voted unanimously Wednesday to spend $4,200 to have four cameras installed in the parks. Not only was the bid by Markowitz Electric lower than two others, reported council member Tom Madey, but the company also will include a one-year service agreement in the price.

The company previously had installed a security system at the public works garage, Madey said.

An array of electronic devices has been recovered by Ohio Township Police as they arrested the three teenagers responsible for a series of vehicle break-ins in the Avonworth School District.

Three 17-year-olds -- two from the district and one from the North Hills -- were caught after an Emsworth resident saw two youths peering into a parked vehicle and alerted police. Chief Beaver Micklos said that the boys ran when police arrived, but officers were able to identify them, and they later confessed.

A Bellevue man faces multiple felony charges after he attempted to outrun police on a motorcycle, then threw himself into oncoming traffic.

Police say that David Davis, 35, may have become agitated after being served with a Protection From Abuse (PFA) no-contact order earlier Wednesday night. About 1 a.m. Thursday, he was observed on a motorcycle on Ohio River Boulevard in Emsworth, where police say he ran the red light at Camp Horne Road.

No charges will be filed against an Avonworth Middle School student who authored a note that caused concern in the district this week.

According to Ohio Township Police Chief Beaver Micklos, a school bus driver found a piece of stationary containing the “Death Note” logo. Death Note is a Japanese anime series about a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook -- the Death Note -- that gives him the power to fight evil by causing the death of anyone whose name is written in the notebook.

Kilbuck residents and officials hope to develop a plan to better respond in situations like the recent blizzard.

Although residents were pleased with snow removal efforts, they expressed concern at the supervisors' meeting Tuesday about elderly or disabled residents who were left without power for days.

Supervisors' chairman John Fader said that the township needed to identify people at risk, who have special medical conditions or are disabled, so that they can be checked on during prolonged periods without power or when they are unable to get out because of excessive snow.

A Sewickley Heights woman faces criminal charges after leaving her toddler alone in a parked car during Sunday’s frigid temperatures.

Ohio Township Police were called to the parking lot of the Mt. Nebo Pointe Target store by a passerby who noticed the 3-year-old girl alone in the vehicle, and waited for an adult to return. When no one appeared after 20 minutes, the man called police.

Officers arrived and got the girl out of the car before her mother -- Yasodhara Snyder, 39 -- came out of the store.

One month after voting to make Clearview Avenue in Emsworth one-way, the borough council has decided to change the street back to allow two-way traffic.

Council voted for the one-way signs to go up last month, after some residents raised concerns over the number of vehicles traveling on Clearview and the speeds of those vehicles.

Clearview Road in Emsworth soon will be a one-way street in an attempt to reduce traffic and speeds.

Emsworth Council voted unanimously at its regular meeting on Wednesday to start the process to make Clearview a one-way street going from Roosevelt Road to Bryson Avenue.

Ohio Township Police Chief Beaver Micklos said that the police department conducted a traffic study after receiving a letter from residents of Clearview and Bryson.

The letter raised concerns about excessive vehicle speeds and oversized trucks traveling on Clearview, he said.

A young man from Stowe Township faces multiple charges of indecent assault and corruption of minors stemming from an incident that occurred in Ben Avon earlier this summer.

Police say that two girls, ages 11 and 14, were visiting an Alder Drive home in June, as was Justin Sayre, 18, of Stowe, and a friend of his.

A guardian of one of the girls later contacted police alleging that Sayre had improper contact with the girls, according to Ohio Township Police Chief Beaver Micklos.

The union representing Avonworth School District teachers called together community leaders last week to urge the adoption of "behavioral expectations" for students.

Avonworth Middle School teachers brought together school board members and district administrators, along with parents, police and other community leaders, in an effort to stem a growing tide of minor disciplinary problems before they become a flood.
