Avalon Police are continuing to investigate a traffic accident on Ohio River Boulevard on Feb. 3 in which injuries were reported. The accident involved vehicles and a motorcycle.

Officers also investigated an accident on California Avenue that day. The driver told police that the vehicle’s gas pedal stuck and the car hit a utility pole.

A man was taken to the hospital with severe facial lacerations after he was assaulted at the bar at the Avalon Motel on Oct. 30. Police arrested motel resident James Retzer Jr.

Officers responding to a report of a domestic dispute at a McKinley Terrace home ended up arresting one of the residents with possession of suspected marijuana and paraphernalia. Charged was Kevin Neff Jr., 24.

Rented items appeared to be popular choices for burglars in Avalon during the past week, with two different incidents involving the reported theft of goods leased from a rental center.

A North Home Avenue resident reported Oct. 1 that someone had broken into her apartment. In addition to a quantity of expensive jewelry and purses, two rented coffee tables and a rented flat screen television were reported stolen.

A Jeep Cherokee reported stolen from the Avalon Motel on Sept. 19 was found torched in Riverview Park by Pittsburgh Police.

Ashley Alonzo Merida, 21, of Taylor Avenue, was arrested for simple assault, possession of a controlled substance and harassment on Sept. 18 after he reportedly assaulted his girlfriend and police discovered a small marijuana blunt in his possession.

Eric Stemmerick, 27, of Virginia Avenue, was charged with possession of paraphernalia on Sept. 18 when police discovered a syringe in his coat pocket during a traffic stop.

Avalon Police began the Megan Law notification of schools, businesses and residents after being informed on June 7 that a violent sex offender was residing at the Avalon Motel. Later that day, police were informed that Timothy Mitchell, 27, no known address, had moved out.

A burglary at an automotive business on california Avenue was reported June 5. A plate glass window had been smashed to get inside the shop.

The man believed to have stolen a wallet from an Avalon Library employee was quickly apprehended on May 2. Items from the wallet taken from a purse at the library were found scattered along Jackman Avenue, although the victim’s driver’s license and bank card were missing. The victim checked her bank account on-line and found a transaction that was found to have occurred at the East Coast bar at the Avalon Motel. Officers investigating at the bar noticed a man fitting the description of the suspect seen in the library, and recovered the missing driver’s license and bank card from him.

Another 60 stamp bags of heroin were taken off the streets of Avalon and a suspected dealer arrested.

AVALON

An Alabama man ended up spending a lot more than he expected to for a “party” at the Avalon Motel after his wallet was reported stolen on March 2.

The victim told Avalon Police that he had met a man in downtown Pittsburgh who had told him that he could have a party with a woman at the motel for $400. The pair traveled by bus to the motel, where the victim paid his new friend, and then left his wallet on a table in the room. The wallet, containing credit cards and an estimated $1,400 in cash, disappeared.

Some 44 bags of suspected heroin, along with marijuana, paraphernalia and stolen electronics, were recovered when the Avalon Police entered a room at the Avalon Motel on Jan. 5.

Police say they were dispatched to the motel to check on the welfare of William Clokey, 20, of Ohio River Boulevard, Avalon. They found him in a room with a woman later identified as Jaclyn Handlow, 20, of Roosevelt Road, 15237.

Officers also found the heroin, marijuana and a bag containing two spoons and three syringes, as well as two laptop computers and gaming systems determined to have been stolen.

A Pittsburgh man has been charged with attempted homicide after he reportedly stabbed another man in the stomach.

The assault occurred Sunday morning, when police were called to the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Ohio River Boulevard, where a man was bleeding heavily from a stab wound to the left side of his stomach.

A Bellevue woman was arrested on two outstanding bench warrants in Avalon. Police say that Amanda L. Veneziale of Irwin Avenue was in possession of suspected heroin and paraphernalia when she was taken into custody on California Avenue on June 1.

Property was reported stolen from a vehicle on Marie Avenue on June 1.

Avalon and Bellevue firefighters responded to an electrical fire in the bar at the Avalon motel on June 3. Water leaking into electrical lines caused the problem.

Several people were taken into custody at the Avalon Motel on outstanding arrest warrants.

Two people wanted for questioning by Stowe Township were located there on April 15. Amanda Smith and Corey Thompson of Ellsworth, PA were arrested and turned over to Stowe. Police say several syringes and empty bags believed to have contained heroin were in the room.

Avalon and Allegheny County police were called to the scene of an apparent fatal heroin overdose on South Ohio Street on April 4. Police say the 25-year-old man was dead when they arrived. Officers found 17 empty stamp bags of heroin.

Avalon and county police also are jointly investigating an alleged sexual assault reported to have occurred at the Avalon Motel on April 1. No arrests have been made.

The burglary of a vacant house on Marie Avenue was reported April 7. Three rifles and a silver tea set were reported stolen.

A North Side man died Monday night, the victim of what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head received the night before during a standoff with North Boroughs and Allegheny County police.

The theft of water meters from two Avalon properties created potentially dangerous basement flooding situations.

The owner of a California Avenue building discovered March 6 that someone had broken into the basement and stolen the meter, leaving water filling the basement.

The same condition was discovered at a vacant Harrison Avenue home on March 5. Neighbors called police after hearing water running in the house.

In other news from Avalon Police, April Jackson, 39, of Bellevue, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana during a traffic stop on March 7.

Avalon Police investigated the burglary of an Ohio River Boulevard home reported Dec. 27. Several items were stolen, police say.

Someone attempted to break into a vehicle parked on Marie Avenue on Dec. 30.

A Pittsburgh man was charged with simple assault after he reportedly choked a woman in a room at the Avalon Motel on Dec. 31. The woman was not seriously injured. Fiore Genovese, 36, was arrested for the assault.

Police are still looking for the man believed responsible for stabbing a Pittsburgh woman multiple times at the Avalon Motel.

Michael Oliver, 23, of Natrona Heights, was able to evade officers in a foot chase into the woods near the McDonald’s restaurant on Route 65 on July 17. Police say he stabbed a woman as many as eight times while they were sharing a room at the motel. She was taken to the hospital for treatment, and released by the next day.

In other news from Avalon Police, a Pioneer radio was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at the Rusty Dory on Route 65 on July 17.

A Pittsburgh man was stabbed during an argument at the Avalon Motel on Wednesday, but accounts differ as to who wielded the knife.

The victim, suffering from a stab wound to the left side of his chest, called police from a pay phone outside the Ohio River Boulevard motel. Police say he identified his assailant as his girlfriend, still inside a motel room.

Police say that the girlfriend pointed to her ex-boyfriend as the responsible person, reporting that the two men began fighting and she hid in the bathroom.
