Summer fun

There’s no season quite as fun as summer, you have to admit, and you don’t have to travel far to have a great time.

It was standing room only at Avalon Field for the annual North Boroughs Independence Day fireworks. Pyrotechnico promised us lots of "oohs" and "aahs," and that's exactly what they delivered. Unfortunately there was a slight problem getting the CD to work, so the fireworks went up without musical accompaniment. We'll try that again next year!

Fireworks to go off Friday, July 2

The North Boroughs' annual Independence Day fireworks will take place on Friday, July 2, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Avalon Field on New Brighton Road.

This year's fireworks will feature an all new display set to a background of patriotic music.

Flames clinch second hotdog title

Northgate varsity football players celebrated last Saturday evening after taking the trophy in the second annual hotdog eating contest. Pictured above from left are members of the Northgate team who beat out the Avonworth squad by one hotdog: Joe Barker, Ryan Castleberry, Chase Staiger and Josh Schultheis.

The contest kicked off the annual North Boroughs fireworks celebration, postponed from July due to flooding at Avalon Field along New Brighton Road.

Thousands of area residents enjoyed music by Uptown Rhythm and Brass before the Pyrotecnico fireworks display.

Independence Day events

A contribution of $2,500 to the North Boroughs Independence Day fireworks celebration was approved by Bellevue Council at its June 2 meeting.
