Gladys Weinzierl Gladys B. Pigoni Weinzierl, 90, of Ohio Township, wife of the late Joseph W. Weinzierl Jr., died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011. She is survived by two sons, J. Buster Weinzierl and his wife Sally and Michael J. Weinzierl and his wife Susan; her sister, Eva Stankunas; and four grandchildren, Mary H. Rolser and her husband David, Joseph, Andrea and Melinda Weinzierl. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Philomena Pigoni; and five siblings, Joseph Pigoni, Charles Pigoni, Vi Giovenelli, Betty Andrade and Mitzi Lasp.

Broadway-bound

Named for the legendary Pittsburgh performer, Gene Kelly, the Kelly Awards brings a taste of Broadway’s Tony Awards to the city as they celebrate the best performances and achievements in high school musical productions for the current school year.

Last Saturday’s 20th annual ceremony highlighted the talents of hundreds of actors, actresses and production workers as “the best of the best” gathered at the Benedum Theater to offer samples of individual and full-cast production numbers.

Avonworth singers take the stage

Several Avonworth senior high and middle school singers have been making their voices heard in chorus activities throughout the area.

From the senior high, Travis Kohler, a junior, and Andrea Weinzierl, a senior, recently participated in the Pennsylvania Music Educators' Association (PMEA) District 1 Chorus at Gateway High School. Travis also performed this week at the PMEA Regional Chorus held at Butler Arera High School.
