Dominic Angeloini Dominic A. Angeloini, 80, of the North Side, husband of the late Catherine M. Angeloini, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011. He is survived by three daughters, Angie and her husband Todd, Patty and her husband Brian and Toni and her husband Jack; his sister, Philomena; six grandchildren, Christina, Brandon, Nicole, Ashley, Zackery and Miranda; two great-grandchildren, Anthony and J.T.; nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and his dog, Ginger. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mary Angeloini; and two siblings, Art Angeloini and Betty McBurney.

The 65th annual Avonworth Community Memorial Day Parade will take place on Monday, May 30, beginning at 10 a.m. in Emsworth.

The parade is sponsored by the Avonworth American Legion Post 866 and the Avonworth communities.

The parade will march along Center Avenue in Emsworth and continue along Church Avenue in Ben Avon and end at the Lance Cpl. Patrick Kenny Field on Ohio River Boulevard. Services will begin at 11 a.m. to honor Avonworth veterans. The guest speaker will be Capt. Andrew Zeltwanger.

Two pedestrian were struck in Avalon during the past week, one by a bicycle and another by a car.

Police were called to California Avenue at McKinley on May 14, where an older male had been hit by a juvenile on a bicycle while walking along the sidewalk. The youth told police that the brakes on his bike did not work. The man was taken to the hospital by ambulance with a large cut above his right eye. The juvenile will be cited for violation of the borough ordinance prohibiting bicycles on sidewalks.

A “Night at the Races” to benefit the Northgate Quarterback Club will be held Friday, June 3, at the American Legion, South Home Avenue, in Avalon.

The benefit will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight, with dinner at 7:15 p.m., and the races at 8 p.m. A D.J. will follow the races.

Cost is $15, which includes dinner, snacks, mixers, beer and wine.

Audrey Lomb Audrey A. Lomb died Monday, April 4, 2011. She is survived by two brothers, Edward F. Lomb and his wife Patricia and Harry Lomb and his wife Irene; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Marie, Mildred, Francis and Raymond. Friends were received at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral mass was held in St. Cyril of Alexandria Church on Saturday.

Pauline Klasterka Pauline R. Yankovic Klasterka, 88, of Ross Township, wife of the late Frank E. Klasterka, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011. She is survived by two children, Joane Lapsley and her husband David and Frank L. Klasterka and his wife Lisa; her sister, Anna Marie Zacharias; three grandchildren, Bill Lapsley, Frank and Katelyn Klasterka; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosemary Miller and Eleanor Hirsch.

Betty Jane Titler Betty Jane Sharpnack Stevenson Titler, 86, of Avalon, formerly of Brownsville and Youngstown and wife of the late Eugene Stevenson and Guy Titler, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010. Mrs. Titler was a registered nurse, taking care of veterans of World War II. She then worked in Ohio and at Bellevue Suburban General Hospital in the neonatal unit. She enjoyed reading, playing the slot machines and watching soap operas.

A local man has received the American Legion Valor Award for his actions under attack in Afghanistan last fall.

U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 4 Patrick Benson, who grew up in the Bellevue/Ross area, joined the Army in 1992, hoping to fulfill his dream of becoming a helicopter pilot. Since 1996, he has been piloting Kiowa helicopters, small, armed aircraft that provide security for the larger Black Hawk Medevac helicopters, among other assignments.

Sidionia Hellerman Sidionia C. Roose Hellerman, 89, of Avalon, wife of the late Allen A. Hellerman, died Tuesday, April 13, 2010. She is survived by three children, Edward P. Hellerman and his wife Marcia, Marie E. Griffin and her husband Harry and Allen B. Hellerman and his wife Barbara; her brother, Richard Roose; 10 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Benjamin, John and Joseph Roose and Margaret Bordt.
