The Quaker Valley Council of Governments and its member municipalities of Aleppo, Avalon, Bell Acres, Bellevue, Ben Avon, Edgeworth, Emsworth, Glenfield, Haysville, Kilbuck, Leet, Leetsdale, Glen Osborne and Sewickley will sponsor a Recycling Day on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sewickley Borough will host the event behind the Sewickley municipal building on Washington Street. Only residents from the above mentioned municipalities will be able to participate, and ID (driver’s license or voter registration) will be required. No commercial establishments may participate.

Thomas James Moore, 29, from Aleppo, was arrested Feb. 10 for possession of narcotics following a traffic stop on Route 65 in Kilbuck Township.

On Feb. 11, Aaron Craig Jackson, 22, from Rochester, was arrested for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Several people were charged with driving under the influence:

Robert J Garver, 23, from Moon Township, was arrested for DUI following a traffic stop on Route 65 in Emsworth on Feb. 11..

An interstate drug trafficking ring based in Ohio Township was closed down last week when a state grand jury returned indictments against 12 men.

The investigation by the state Attorney General’s Bureau of Narcotics Investigation was called “Operation Infamous Choppers” after the Camp Horne Road, Ohio Township business that served as the base for a drug ring that officials say brought some $2 million worth of marijuana from Mexico, by way of Arizona, to Western Pennsylvania.

An Aleppo woman was charged with driving under the influence after Ohio Township Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Route 65 near Toms Run Road in Kilbuck on July 24.
