Parking study

Bellevue’s engineer will be asked to provide alternate plans for parking and handicapped-accessible ramps in Bayne Park while council wrangles with what work should be done in conjunction with the construction of a skate plaza there.

Plans to extend the current lot and widen the driveway to accommodate two passing vehicles met with opposition from elected officials and residents due to the amount of “green” space that would be lost.

Bellevue awarded big grants

Another half million dollars in grant funds are expected to be received in Bellevue this year, funding projects as diverse as public safety, recreation and economic development.

Anticipating the pending arrival of the borough’s new aerial firetruck, purchased in large part with $600,000 in FEMA funds, Fire Chief Glenn Pritchard told Bellevue Council Tuesday that the fire company also has received a $300,000 FEMA grant to purchase a new fire engine.

The new truck will replace Bellevue’s 1989 pumper, the chief said.

And that was only the start of the good news.

New bids wanted

Ben Avon engineer Ed McGee said he received two bids for the ADA restroom to be installed at the fire department building, and "neither bid makes sense."

The low one was for $37,000 and the high one was $69,000, whereas McGee's estimates were in the $25,000 to $28,000 range.

He recommended rejecting the bids and soliciting new ones directly from contractors the borough has worked with in the past. Council agreed with his recommendation.
