Pet Photo Contest Winner

After years of canines taking the crown in The Citizen’s annual Pet Photo Contest, we have our first feline winner!

Fuzzy, a 3-year-old Ragdoll who belongs to Avonworth third grader Hannah Banks of Ben Avon, very nearly took the title last year. Neither he nor Hannah gave up, and came back for a strong first place finish in this year’s popular vote.

This year’s second most popular photo also included a cat, but not just a cat. The photo of cat & dog buddies Seraphina and Marzapan, a Boxer and a Tabby, also was a big hit among readers. The unlikely duo belong to the Stepnick family of Bellevue.

All of the proceeds from the contest will go to Spencer and Friends, North Boroughs Emergency Animal Rescue, which provides assistance when animals find themselves in trouble, such as what happened recently when a dog took a dive down a cliffside in Avalon onto the railroad tracks below. C.D. (for Cliff Diver) is recuperating with a broken leg.

Thanks to all the pet lovers who shared their wonderful pictures with all of us this year!
