Denise Plaskon took the long way around to reach Bellevue once again.
While studying at the University of Pittsburgh -- where she received a master’s degree in library and information science -- she did sales work that included Bellevue as part of her territory.
Since then, she has traveled a bit, working as the branch manager of the Lawler Branch Library in New Bedford, MA, for three and a half years, and then as director of the Everett Free Library in Everett, PA for two years.
Even now, she commutes to her new job as the director of Bayne Library in Bellevue from her home in North Huntingdon in Westmoreland County.
Plaskon began work last week and is still learning the niches of the historical Bayne building and collections. She said that she is talking to library patrons to get their views on what types of programs they would like to see offered, and hopes to continue many of the events and programs that have become popular.
Anyone who has ideas for programs for all age groups is welcome to stop and see her at Bayne, and volunteers are especially invited to lend a hand.
The Friends of Bayne Library will hold a reception for Plaskon at the library on March 16, 4-6 p.m.
