As Americans prepare to acknowledge the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed thousands, a piece of that tragedy has found a home in Bellevue.
Pictured above, Bellevue firefighters Jack Davin and George Malloy display a piece of one of the girders that gave form to the World Trade Center in New York City, brought down by planes that crashed into the towers on Sept. 11, 2001.
Fire companies across the country were informed about a year ago that the pieces would be made available to them in honor of the many firefighters and emergency responders killed trying to rescue thousands of people trapped in the WTC. Bellevue Volunteer Fire Company submitted an application, and the girder arrived late last week, just in time to be unveiled to the public at the car cruise on Sunday.
