Wednesday’s student drive, sponsored by the National Honor Society, collected 48 units of blood, according to school nurse Kathy Butterini, who noted that because one pint of blood can be used to save as many as three different lives, the Avonworth students potentially helped 144 people. Another drive is planned at the school in May.
