Rusted Root will perform at the 11th annual Allegheny County Music Festival on Sunday, Sept. 7, at the amphitheater in Hartwood. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services, which organizes the event, is requesting a $20 per car donation to benefit the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund. The Music Festival Fund aims to improve the lives of children served by DHS by providing opportunities for children to participate in activities such as dance lessons, summer camp and museum memberships.

The next meeting of the Avon Club Foundation will be held on Sept. 2 at a new time 7p.m., in Ben Avon borough hall.

Trinity Lutheran Church in Avalon once again will sponsor the "Great Avalon Yard Sale" on Saturday, Aug. 28, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Avalon residents who want to hold a yard sale that day can call (412)761-4010 or (412)761-5416 to have their sales listed on a free map that will be handed out to shoppers who stop by the church that morning. A $5 donation is requested to help cover advertising costs.

The church also will serve free hotdogs after 10:30 a.m., and be open for Sunday school registration for those ages 5 years to adult.

On Thursday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m., the Avalon Public Library will hold a free concert on the grass. The group "High Society" will play tunes from the 1920s, '30s and '40s.

There will be a Tuesday Evening Book Club meeting on Aug. 31, 6:30 p.m. The book "Strange but True" by John Searles will be discussed.

On Sept. 9 at 7 p.m., there will be a library fund-raising meeting.

The Saturday Mystery Book Group will meet on Sept. 11, 2:30 p.m. The September selection is "206 Bones" by Kathy Reichs.

Emanuel’s Luthern Church will hold a special outdoor worship service and picnic at Bellevue Memorial Park, Bragdon Shelter, on Sunday Aug. 22, at 10a.m.

Those attending should bring a salad, dessert, or a side dish to share.

Ohio Township Community Day is on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 3 p.m. until dark at the township park on Nicholson Road.

Opening entertainment will be Shari Richards and Rick Purcell. Other features include a ventriloquist, K-9 demonstration, "Wild World of Animals","Abrakadoodl," crafts, kids bounce, bungee trampoline, games and food booths.

Community Day will end with fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

The first annual Bellevue “Yard Sales Extravaganza” will be held Aug. 7, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

All residents of Bellevue are invited to participate. Maps and listings will be distributed to shoppers beginning at 7:30 a.m. from the Enjoy Bellevue tent at the Bellevue McDonald’s.

For $10, each yard sale location and items available for sale will be identified on the map, with print and on-line advertising throughout the Pittsburgh area.
