Avalon Library will host local author Maureen Frew on June 22 at 6:30 p.m.

Emsworth VFC Community Day

The Emsworth Volunteer Fire Company will hold its second annual Community Day on Saturday, June 19, rain or shine at the Lance Corporal Patrick Kenny Field.

"Come see what it's like to be a firefighter" is the theme of the event, which will be held from noon to 5 p.m. It will include many local fire trucks, fire extinguisher training, the "Jaws of Life," a simulated smoke-filled house, free hotdogs, hamburgers, and soft drinks, and activities for children and adults.

Mt. Nebo Festival, Cruise

Mt. Nebo Presbyterian Church will combine a strawberry festival with a car cruise on June 19, 4-7 p.m., at the church, 1828 Mt. Nebo Rd. in Ohio Township.

Physicals for Northgate students who will participate in fall sports will be given at Allegheny General Hospital - Suburban Campus on Wednesday, June 16, 6-8 p.m.

Lunch Program

Avalon Borough again will participate in the Allegheny County free lunch program.

Beginning Monday, June 14, free lunches will be served to children under 18 years of age from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the California Avenue Park.

The program will run through Aug. 20.
