QVCOG “Recycling Day” to be held May 7

The Quaker Valley Council of Governments and its member municipalities of Aleppo, Avalon, Bell Acres, Bellevue, Ben Avon, Edgeworth, Emsworth, Glenfield, Haysville, Kilbuck, Leet, Leetsdale, Glen Osborne and Sewickley will sponsor a Recycling Day on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sewickley Borough will host the event behind the Sewickley municipal building on Washington Street. Only residents from the above mentioned municipalities will be able to participate, and ID (driver’s license or voter registration) will be required. No commercial establishments may participate.

The following items will be accepted: oil (brought in some type container); lead/acid batteries from cars, motorcycles and boats; passenger and light truck tires, $2, no rims, not to exceed 18 inches, NO large truck tires or off-road tires.

Computer and electronic-related items and fees paid by residents: complete computer system (CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse), no charge; printers, scanners, keyboards and mouse brought separately, $1 - $5; televisions and monitors, no charge; fax machines, UPS single battery, analog telephone systems/components, stereo/boom box, large speakers (pair), DVD, VCR, T-vo, cable box, DVR and small appliances such as can openers and toasters, $5.

Reusable building materials items that will be accepted: cabinets; plumbing fixtures; windows -- no broken glass, and no aluminum storm windows; doors, no broken glass and no rotted or split wood; concrete blocks; glass blocks and bricks; lumber, no individual pieces shorter than 4 ft., no areas rotted or stained with oil, grease or dirt; tiles; hardware; hardwood flooring; counter tops; insulation; shingles/siding; light fixtures; carpet, no worn out areas or stains; latex and oil based paint, no aluminum paint, $1 per can (one gallon or smaller)

Document shredding, 10 a.m. - noon only, $5 per box of documents with dimensions of 18” x 10” x 11” or smaller.

Unacceptable materials: old, out of code electrical products, appliances, items with exposed lead paint, items that are missing major parts (like cabinets without the doors), asbestos siding and tiles.

The QVCOG reserves the right to refuse any items considered unacceptable.
