The Ben Avon Area Historical Association invites area residents to attend a program on the early history of Neville Island.
The program will be presented on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 2 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church of Ben Avon, 7501 Church Ave.
Those attending will learn about the island's agrarian history and why it was know as the "Gem of the Ohio!" The program will include photographs from the early 1900s of farming families and their homes and schools, as well as information about the amusement park located there and how Neville Island became a center for industry rather than farming.
Dan Holland, founder and CEO of the Young Preservationist Associa-tion of Pittsburgh will present the program.
