Holiday celebration Dec. 11 in Avalon

Area residents are invited to help “Brighten the Season” in Avalon with a variety of events throughout the borough.

The day will kick off with the annual “Cookie Walk” at Greenstone United Methodist Church, 939 California Ave., from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Shoppers will be able to buy a variety of homemade baked goods.

Trinity Lutheran Church on california Avenue will host a pancake lunch from noon until 2 p.m. Proceeds will be donated to the NHCO Food Pantry.

From 1 until 3 p.m., children can stop by Trinity Lutheran to make holiday ornaments, which can be hung on the borough’s official Christmas tree at the borough building next door.

Also from 1 until 3 p.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with children at the Avalon Borough Hall.

A tree raffle held from 1 until 3 p.m. at the borough hall will benefit the Avalon Public Library.

Avalon Elementary School’s band will perform from 3 until 3:30 p.m. near the borough hall, and the school’s chorus will lead a sing-along from 3:30 until 5 p.m.

At 5 p.m., the Christmas tree will be lit, with cookies and hot chocolate served at Trinity Lutheran immediately thereafter and the tree raffle winners announced.
