North Boroughs residents who would like to get involved on Earth Day will have no shortage of opportunities designed to clean and protect the environment on Earth Day, April 30.
Goodwill has joined with Enjoy Bellevue to collect old electronics equipment at no charge. Computers, monitors, printers, cell phones, fax machines, digital cameras, cords, cables, manuals, software, chargers, adapters, mice, keyboards, scanners, stereo systems, microwaves, VCRs, and any/all hard-to-recycle electronic waste can be dropped off at the donation site at New Brighton Road and Frederick Street (across from the Avalon Fire Department) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30. All e-waste donations are accepted free of charge and donation slips will be provided. TVs cannot be accepted.
The Avalon Quality of Life Association is organizing a borough-wide clean-up beginning at 8 a.m. Volunteers can pick up supplies in front of the borough hall, and lunch will be provided for all registered volunteers at 12:30 p.m. Register by e-mailing avalonqol@gmail.com or calling (412)376-7197.
The annual North Suburban Chamber of Commerce “Clean-up Day” will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on April 30. Volunteers are welcome and should register by e-mailing Timothy Holeczy at tholeczy @fidelitybank-pa.com.
Volunteers also are needed for an Earth Day litter clean-up in Ben Avon Heights. Donating just an hour or two of their time, volunteers will meet at Ben Avon Heights Park at 9:15 a.m. Children ages 10 and older can participate with their parents. All should wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts or jackets. All supplies -- safety vests, work gloves, garbage bags, etc. -- will be provided. Each volunteer will receive a Norway Spruce sapling.
