Avonworth Memorial Day parade, service planned

Event Date: Mon, 2010-05-31

The 64th annual Avonworth community Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 31, with a few changes this year to accommodate weight restrictions placed on the Center Avenue bridge.

Due to structural problems, vehicles weighing more than 5 tons are not permitted on the bridge.

All of the parade units except for firetrucks and emergency vehicles will line up as usual on Center Avenue in Emsworth. Trucks will report to the old Shop ‘n Save lot on Center, and join the parade after it crosses the bridge.

The parade then will continue through Ben Avon to the Lance Cpl. Patrick Kenny Field on Ohio River Boulevard in Emsworth, where a service will begin at 11 a.m. Guest speaker will be David E. Heflin, LTC, U.S. Army Reserves.

In case of rain, the service will be held in Smith Center at Sacred Heart Church.
