Youth rescued from creek

Saturday’s rains created a dangerous condition in Lowries Run Creek, and resulted in a Kilbuck Township boy having to be rescued from the rapidly moving waters on Sunday.

Ohio Township Police, NorthWest EMS and Emsworth Volunteer Fire Company responded Sunday afternoon to a report that a 17-year-old was under water in the creek behind his Kilbuck home.

Police say that Justin Singer’s mother was able to get him out of the water and onto the far creek bank. Firefighters set up rescue lines to get him back to the Camp Horne Road side of the creek.

He was transported to Allegheny General Hospital.

In other news from Ohio Township Police, happy students with cans of spray paint celebrated Avonworth’s graduation by marking school buildings and area signs with “2010.” The vandalism was discovered on May 26.

Tools were reported stolen May 21 from a job site in the Cobblestone plan in Ohio Township.

Seven people were arrested for driving under the influence along Route 65 in Emsworth May 23 as the West Hills DUI Task Force conducted a checkpoint near Atlantic Avenue.

Other arrests for DUI were:

Christopher Karalis, 50, of St. Charles, IL, stopped on Route 65 in Emsworth on May 20;

Kevin Brady, 49, of Carnegie, whose vehicle was pulled over on Route 65 in Kilbuck Township on May 22.
