Ohio Township Police are warning residents not to let strangers into their homes after a group of scam artists were nearly successful in stealing property from an Emsworth woman.
Police say that several men came to the door of the elderly victim’s Locust Street home on Wednesday, claiming to be there to check on repairs that they said they had performed on the house a few years ago. One man was allowed inside and went up to the second floor, returning with a strong box he tried to pass off as his toolbox. The victim, however, recognized her property and called to several children outside to call the police. The man dropped the strongbox and he and his team fled.
Ohio Township Police Chief Beaver Micklos said that door-to-door soliciting is illegal without a permit, and residents should call the police immediately if a solicitor approaches them. He especially cautioned residents not to allow these people inside their homes, no matter what story they might tell.
