Sale of township hall debated

The Kilbuck Township Supervisors heard Tuesday from residents who both oppose and support the idea of selling the municipal building on Eicher Road.

Officials are investigating the possibility of selling the property, possibly in conjunction with the former fire department property that will be sold because the township no longer has a volunteer fire company.

Supervisors chairman John Fader said that the municipal building is used for only 30 hours a year. The building once housed the police department and administrative offices. The police department no longer exists, and administrative functions have been moved to the Avalon borough building.

“We don’t want it sold. It’s the only thing we have left,” said Roosevelt Road resident Janice Burns, who noted the loss of the police and fire departments.

Supervisor Jean Sebastien Valois said that money from the sale of the building could be used to fund a number of capital improvements in the township.

Fader said that the Mayernik Center at ACORD Park, which is located in Kilbuck Township, could be used to hold monthly meetings.

Resident Robert Kiser supported the sale.

“We cannot afford this luxury, just like we could not afford our own fire department, and we could not afford our own police department,” he said.
