PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) in the Borough of Emsworth, will be closed in both directions this weekend, Aug. 27-30.
Crews will be installing a temporary support beam to allow traffic to remain on the existing bridge over Lowries Run between Hiland Avenue and Camp Horne Road while long-term construction to replace the structure continues. This beam installation work cannot occur with traffic on Route 65.
The closure will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and continue to approximately 6 a.m. on Monday. Crews expect the work to be completed and the roadway reopened early Saturday, but have listed the closure through Monday in case additional time is needed.
Signs will be posted to guide motorists. Posted detours are:
Southbound -- Turn left onto Camp Horne Road; Access southbound I-279 (Parkway North); Exit at Union Avenue-Bellevue West View interchange (Exit 7) to return to Route 65 or continue south on the Parkway North toward Pittsburgh.
Northbound -- Turn right onto Riverview Avenue in Bellevue; Left onto Starr Avenue; Left onto Lincoln Avenue; Right onto North Home Avenue; Continue to Union Avenue; Access I-279 north to Camp Horne Road (Exit 8; Turn left and follow Camp Horne Road back to Route 65.
The $2.9 million project includes replacement of the existing single span through-girder bridge over Lowries Run, approach work and other miscellaneous construction between Locust Street and Beaver Avenue. The prime contractor is the Lane Construction Company of Pittsburgh. Overall work will be completed this fall.
About 20,000 vehicles use Route 65 in this area on an average day.
