Pittsburgh man charged in stabbing

A Pittsburgh man has been charged with attempted homicide after he reportedly stabbed another man in the stomach.

The assault occurred Sunday morning, when police were called to the intersection of Elizabeth Avenue and Ohio River Boulevard, where a man was bleeding heavily from a stab wound to the left side of his stomach.

Police say the victim reported that he had been waiting out a bus stop on Ohio River Boulevard when a man named Mike stabbed him and stole $200. The victim gave police a description of the male, who was apprehended by Ohio Township Police on the railroad tracks. Police say that Michael Gruszewski, 23, of Dartmoor Street, Pittsburgh 25210, was carrying a bloody shirt and had sustained a serious cut to his thumb.

EMS transported both men to Allegheny General Hospital. Further investigation revealed that both men had been staying in the same room at the Avalon Motel.

In other news from Avalon Police, a warrant has been issued for the arrest of a West View man on aggravated assault charges after he reportedly hit his half-brother in the head with a bar stool and destroyed a substantial amount of property at the Carline Cafe.

Police say that Matthew Osselborn had already left the bar when they arrived on Aug. 2. Glasses, bottles and a light were smashed. EMS was called to examine the victim.

On July 31, police were called to Eat n’ Park restaurant on Ohio River Boulevard where an intoxicated male was reported to be out of control and trying to tear a booth table out of the wall. Police say that Jacob Finley, 30, of Kenyon Court, West View, was unconscious when they arrived, and they called EMS. He later was taken to the Avalon Police Station, where he was cited for public drunkenness.

Avalon and Allegheny County Police are investigating the sexual assault of a minor that was reported on July 27.

Electronic devices were among items reported stolen from several unlocked vehicles. On July 25, two vehicle break-ins were reported on Harrison Avenue and another on Ohio River Boulevard. Among the items stolen were two GPS units, an Ipod, a digital camera, two headsets and coins.

A bicycle was reported stolen from California Avenue on July 26. Police say the lock securing the bike had been cut.

A gun was reported stolen July 24 from a Jackman Avenue residence. Police say the weapon is valued at $800.

Karyn Renee Heinold, 46, of Marie Avenue, was charged with theft on July 24 after she reportedly stole $200 from the cash register at Burger King, where she was employed.

A Tri-Wire employee reportedly stole two bracelets from a home where he was working on McKinley Terrace on July 23. Police say that Bryan Doolittle, 36, of Coraopolis, admitted to the theft.

The employee of a California Avenue business may have picked the wrong time to make a stand about chairs on the sidewalk. Police say that workers at Blondie’s were told July 22 to move the chairs or they would be cited for obstructing the sidewalk. One worker, Therion Nelson, 25, of Taylor Avenue, reported refused to comply with the order. When police checked, they say they found that Nelson was wanted on six different arrest warrants, and he was taken into custody.

Both parties in a domestic dispute were charged with simple assault. Police were called to the parking lot outside Anthony’s on Ohio River Boulevard on July 27. Charged were Larry Taylor, 24, and Tiara Simpson, 38, both of the North Side. A witness said both had been equally combative during an argument.

Angel Pinero of Taylor Avenue was charged with making an unsworn falsification to police on July 28. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail after police discovered he was wanted on an outstanding warrant for theft and possession of an instrument of crime.

Tim Demay, 35, of South Starr Avenue, was cited for disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after police say they observed him staggering and then urinating on a sidewalk in the 700 block of California Avenue on July 30.

Two vehicles were reported vandalized. A car parked in the 700 block of California Avenue was found with damage to its hood on July 23. Witnesses said an intoxicated white male had jumped on the vehicle. On Aug. 5, the back window of a vehicle parked behind a Fisk Avenue residence was found broken.
