"Pink-out"

When the Northgate and Avonworth football teams meet on the field for the final football game of the season, they will be waging war against more than each other. The game will be a "pink-out" to raise funds and enhance awareness of how breast cancer impacts young women.

Northgate athletic director Bryan Kyle said that the idea began locally at Mt. Lebanon High School, where it has become the traditional season finale between two rival teams. With Northgate playing Avonworth once again this year, after several years of being in different WPIAL classes, people at both schools have decided to adopt the effort.

Kyle said that band members, coaches and cheerleaders will be wearing pink, and players will have the breast cancer awareness ribbon on their helmets, among other displays.

The game will be played at Avonworth's Lenzner Field on Friday, Oct. 29.

The two schools' girls' volleyball teams also will do their part, playing in the "Volley for the Cure" on Sept.
