Paving begins

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that work to mill and pave Route 65 (Ohio River Boulevard) in the Borough of Avalon will occur around-the-clock Oct. 21-31, weather permitting.

Lane restrictions are currently in place on Route 65 between the Dilworth Run Bridge (near Wendy’s) and Locust Street. However, additional delays and possible traffic stoppages should be expected during the paving operations. PennDOT is advising motorists to allow extra time and be prepared for stop conditions and changing traffic patterns.

The $1.4 million improvement project on Route 65 includes widening the existing pavement from 40 feet to 52 feet, adding a turn lane for access to Elizabeth Avenue, milling, resurfacing, drainage, signal upgrades, guiderail, and other improvements. Frank J. Zottola Construction, Inc. of Valencia is the prime contractor for the project. Overall work will be completed in late fall.
