Part-time

Bellevue Council declined to give officials the option of making a new position full- or part-time, opting to limit it to part-time.

Mayor George Doscher suggested that the new position of meter attendant/assistant police office manager be included in the borough’s personnel code as either a full- or part-time position because the police department’s needs could change in the future. He pointed out that the police office now has three full-time employees, whose number would be reduced to one full-time and one part-time in 2011. The part-time position is budgeted at 32 hours per week, according to director of administrative services Doug Sample.

Council members, however, said that officials had agreed after extended discussion to keep the position part-time without benefits.

A motion to limit the position to part-time was approved in a 4-3 vote at Tuesday’s work session. Council members Jane Braunlich, Jim and Susan Viscusi and Linda Woshner supported the motion, while Kathy Coder, Mark Helbling and David Gillingham Jr. were opposed. Mark Panichella was absent from the meeting, and Lisa Blaney-Stewart was absent at the time of the vote.
