Joann Johnson
Joann A. Kaib Johnson, 65, of Glenfield and Ohio Township, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011.
Mrs. Johnson enjoyed coloring, Bingo and trips to the casino.
She is survived by three children, Cindy Johnson of Emsworth, Scott Johnson and his partner Jerry Clarke of McCandless Township and Michael Johnson of Ross Township; her former husband, James H. Johnson of Wexford; three brothers, Charles Kaib and his wife Betty of Economy Borough, Richard Kaib of Ambridge and William Kaib of Aliquippa; her daughter-in-law, Kelly Johnson; and three grandchildren, Celina, Elizabeth and Jacob Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Sr. and Catherine Trump Kaib.
Friends were received at Copeland's Sewickley Funeral Home where services were held on Friday. Burial was in Sewickley Cemetery Mausoleum.
Bernard Szymczak
Bernard T. Szymczak of Ross Township, formerly of Vandergrift, PA, died Thursday, May 19, 2011.
Mr. Szymczak was a 1966 graduate of Kiski Area High School and he received a bachelor of science degree in biology in 1970 from Alliance College, a medical technology certification at Washington Hospital and a master's degree and M.P.H. at the University of Pittsburgh. He worked as a medical technologist at several hospitals, most recently at Suburban General Hospital where he retired in 2010. He was a member of Polish National Alliance. He also was an artist working in oil, chalk and pencil, and he enjoyed gardening and music, especially doo-wop, rhythm and blues and Bob Dylan. He was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Szymczak; his son, Thomas R. Szymczak; two siblings, Robert Szymczak and his wife Dana and Colleen Walker and her husband Daniel; and two nieces and a nephew, Sarah and Stephen Walker and Krystyna Szymczak. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Margaret Dluhy Szymczak.
Friends were received at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral mass was held in the Church of the Assumption on Monday.
Thomas Bridge
Thomas G. Bridge, 62, of West View, died Friday, May 20, 2011.
Mr. Bridge was a member of Steamfitters Local #449 for 40 years.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Ann Caimi of McCandless Township and Myrona Little and her husband Paul K. of Mt. Lebanon; seven nieces and nephews, Rachelle Trudeau and her husband Wayne, Laura Caimi, Amanda Caimi, Joseph Caimi Jr., Emilee Little, Bridget Little and Daniel Little; and granduncle of Bailey Trudeau, Ethan Trudeau and Joey Caimi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas A. and Mary A. Butchko Bridge; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Caimi Sr.
Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue, where services were held on Wednesday. Burial was in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with military honors. John Cigna
John Cigna, 75, of Shaler Township, husband of the late Patricia Cigna, died Friday, May 20, 2011 in Vincentian Home.
Mr. Cigna was a well known radio personality in the Pittsburgh area for many years. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and worked at radio stations in West Virginia, Ohio and Indiana before settling in Pittsburgh.
He is survived by four sons, Tony Cigna and his wife Cheri, John Cigna and his wife Laurie of Shaler Township, Mike Cigna and his wife Lane of Ben Avon and Chris Cigna and his wife Nicole of Nashville, TN; and six grandchildren, Tricia, Stephanie, Andrew, Zachary, Taylor and Madison.
Friends were received at Bock Funeral Home, Glenshaw. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Bonaventure Church in Glenshaw on Tuesday. Contributions are suggested to Little Sisters of the Poor, 1028 Benton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
Norma Giovengo
Norma M. Mascio Giovengo, 81, of Avalon, died Friday, 20, 2011 in Masonic Village.
She is survived by her husband, John Giovengo; two children, Dale Giovengo and his wife Sue Ann of Pittsburgh and Lynn Dittmar and her husband Darren of McCandless Township; five grandchildren, Leah, Susie, Ben, Rachael and Michael; and a great-grandson, Wyatt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfanso and Diletta Rocci Mascio.
Friends were received at the Lawrence T. Miller Funeral Home, Bellevue, where services were held on Tuesday. Burial was in Christ Our Redeemer Cemetery.
Richard Goodhart
Rev. Dr. Richard "Dick" Goodhart, 87, of Rancho Bernardo, CA, formerly of Pittsburgh, died Friday, May 7, 2011.
Dr. Goodhart had served as the minister of Eighth United Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh 1960-75. He worked with the youth club, choir and adults. He then served as minister to several churches in San Diego County before retiring. After retirement, he served as pastor of visitation at Rancho Bernardo Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marian Luebben Goodhart; six children, Sharon Turner of Grove City, PA, Pamela Pulkowski and her husband Hank of South Carolina, Mark Goodhart and his wife Heidi of Michigan, John Goodhart and his wife Joanne Vollmer of Ben Avon, Adele Saleh and her husband Fred of California and Anita Asfazadour and her husband Tim of California; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held in Ranchero Bernardo Presbyterian Church, 17010 Pomerade Rd., San Diego, CA 92128. Arrangements were made by Simons Funeral Home, North Hills.
George Kraus
George F. Kraus, 73, of Avalon, died Saturday, May 21, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Patchan Kraus; two children, Catherine Kraus and George Kraus and his wife Pamela; three siblings, Judy Emanuel, Erna Handyside and Ralph Kraus; two granddaughters, Abby and Ally Kraus; and two sisters-in-law, Rita Patchan and Gloria Flannery.
Friends were received at the Orion C. Pinkerton Funeral Home, Avalon. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in the Church of the Assumption on Wednesday. Memorials are suggested to his church or a favorite charity.
William Macey
William M. Macey of Emsworth died Tuesday, May 17, 2011.
Mr. Macey sang and danced with the Pittsburgh Slovakians Group.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Comport and Dorothy Kirchner; 25 nieces and nephews; 49 grandnieces and grandnephews; and 23 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. He was preceded in death by four siblings, Margaret Tempalski, Edward Macey, Catherine Kramer and Agnes Spudich.
Friends were received at T.B. Devlin Funeral Home, North Hills. A Mass of Christian Burial was held in Sacred Heart Church in Emsworth on Tuesday.
Samuel Pekich
Samuel N. Pekich, 79, husband of the late Carolyn Jane Pekich, died Saturday, May 21, 2011.
Mr. Pekich was a longtime member of St. Leo Ushers Club and Bowling League.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol "Lynn" Cerra and her husband Frank; three siblings, Eleanor Earls, George and Stephen Pekich; four grandchildren, Derrick Cerra and his wife Liz, Stephenie Grimm, Tracey Davis and her husband Taru and Tiffany Felger and her husband William; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel N. and Anna R. Pekich; and three siblings, Charles and Bill Pekich and Anna Marie Henning.

Rita Sims
Rita Stella Sims, wife of the late Charles Leon Sims, died Saturday, May 21, 2011.
She is survived by two children, Karen Smay and her husband Ralph and Ronald Sims and his wife Judith; and three grandchildren, Spenser Smay, Kristen Sims and Matthew Sims.
Friends were received at Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, North Side. A funeral mass was held on Wednesday in Risen Lord Church.
Nancy Considine
Nancy Considine, 77, of Hatfield, MA, formerly of Ohio Township and wife of the late James Considine, died Sunday, May 15, 2011.
Mrs. Considine earned a master's degree in philosophy at Trinity College. She taught at community colleges in Connecticut, incorporating her love of Woody Allen films into the curriculum. She opened a book store in the 1970s and later sold books on-line focusing on philosophy, nature and her favorite fiction writers. She was an avid gardener. She was actively involved in campaigning for President Barack Obama and attended the inauguration. She was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan until she moved to New England and became a Boston Red Sox and UCONN basketball fan.
She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Heigl of Virginia and Beatrice Heigl of Pittsburgh; five stepchildren, Anne Wingard and her husband Chuck of Holland, MI, Christopher Considine and his wife Colleen Donovan of Fairmouth, ME, Margaret Considine of Westfield, MA, Jane Considine of Portland, ME and Barbara Considine and her husband Tim Carpenter of Florence, MA; five grandchildren, Matthew Cronin of San Francisco, CA, Kevin Sturtevant of Portland, ME, Clare Considine of Falmouth, ME, Sheila and Julia Carpenter of Florence; and her dog, Peppy. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Mary Schran Heigl.
A memorial service will be held in Hatfield, MA on Sunday, June 5, at 1 p.m. Burial was in Marlborough, CT.
